About Ms. Amanda McDonald, Principal of Lake Middle School

Ms. McDonald is former teacher and was the principal resident at the Denver Center for International Studies in Montbello in 2017-18.  Ms. McDonald shares about herself, “Growing up in a single family home where we struggled to make ends meet, there were far fewer opportunities in front of me. From an early age, my mom instilled the values of family, hard work and dedication. I received a bachelor’s degree in history and education from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Denver. I had the opportunity to further my leadership development at Relay Graduate School of Education in 2015, and completed a full principal residency at a turnaround school, DCIS Ford in Montbello.

My drive for achieving academic excellence and ensuring great schools in every neighborhood has been shaped over the last nine years as a teacher, dean of instruction and assistant principal in Denver Public Schools. As the mother of four boys, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. I believe you can do this in three simple ways: Model, Connect, Engage. Model the behavior you want to see, connect with the people you lead and engage them as much as possible.

My family and I are continually advocating for the communities in Denver and I firmly believe in ensuring Every Child Succeeds. I feel humbled by the opportunity to introduce myself and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and expertise to serve your kids. Thank you!
