Ms. Stewart is former teacher and was the principal resident at the Denver Center for International Studies in Montbello in 2017-18. Ms. Stewart shares about herself. “Growing up in a single family home where we struggled to make ends meet, there were far fewer opportunities in front of me. From an early age, my mom instilled the values of family, hard work and dedication. I received a bachelor’s degree in history and education from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Denver. I had the opportunity to further my leadership development at Relay Graduate School of Education in 2015, and completed a full principal residency at a turnaround school, DCIS Ford in Montbello.
My drive for achieving academic excellence and ensuring great schools in every neighborhood has been shaped over the last nine years as a teacher, dean of instruction and assistant principal in Denver Public Schools. As the mother of four boys, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. I believe you can do this in three simple ways: Model, Connect, Engage. Model the behavior you want to see, connect with the people you lead and engage them as much as possible.
My family and I are continually advocating for the communities in Denver and I firmly believe in ensuring Every Child Succeeds. I feel humbled by the opportunity to introduce myself and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and expertise to serve your kids. Thank you!”
We are excited to be part of a unique partnership between Northwest Denver middle schools, Lake and Skinner. Launched in January of 2018, this partnership ensures that both schools benefit from strong systems and rigorous instructional practices, and creates an opportunity for both schools to share resources and best practices, expand community events, and create new opportunities for teacher development and collaboration.
Lake Middle School remains true to its heritage and focus of developing globally-minded citizens, engaging deeply in rigorous core content, and offering a well-rounded middle school experience that values learning a second language, exploring the arts, and engaging with the community.
