Dear Lake Families,
As we continue to plan for the upcoming school year, I want to share an update with you on our ongoing work. Our DPS leadership team has been responding to the changing realities of COVID-19 on a daily basis. We are dedicated to providing you as much information as possible as we approach the coming school year, and you can expect thorough communication directly from Lake Middle School beginning in early August, pending additional district-level planning and decision making.
One update we are able to share is that we have made the decision to reschedule 6th Grade Academy. We want the opportunity to plan for all safeguards and be able to welcome our 6th graders to school before our other grades to ensure they feel comfortable with the launch of their middle school years. We will send updated dates and times for 6th Grade Academy in early August.
For all other updates prior to August, please review all Denver Public Schools communication, which is also available on their website (dpsk12.org) and Facebook page (facebook.com/DenverPublicSchools). Due to the consistently changing landscape of the state, city, and district response to COVID-19, these resources will be the best way for you to review the latest updates on the 20-21 school year. Additionally, you may find helpful updates at the City of Denver website (denvergov.org) and State of Colorado website (colorado.gov and covid19.colorado.gov).
Lastly, thank you to those of you who submitted your DPS survey responses regarding remote and in-person learning options, as the survey reponses are crucial to our school year planning. Please note that ALL families will need to complete the Annual Family Update as part of registration for the school year, at which time you will be asked to confirm your preference for in-person vs. remote learning. The completion of your Annual Family Update will be extremely important, and we encourage you to mark your calendars for July 27, as it is the scheduled date for the Annual Family Update to become available on the DPS website. If you completed the Annual Family Update during the early bird window in May, you will likely need to log in again to confirm your preference for remote vs. in person learning.
We will continue to update you with all information as soon as we can and we hope you are staying happy, safe, and healthy during your summer break!
Together We Rise,
Amanda McDonald
Principal, Lake Middle School
